Weight Capacity and Class

  • The Aventon Adventure can support up to 400 pounds, while the Multijoy Spaniel has a limit of 350 pounds.
  • Both bikes are shipped as Class 2 e-bikes but can be upgraded to Class 3.
  • Class 2 e-bikes have a maximum speed of 20 mph, while Class 3 e-bikes can reach 28 mph.

  • The Aventon Adventure and Multijoy Spaniel both feature 26 by 4-inch Kenda tires.

“When it comes to weight capacity, the Aventon Adventure can do 400 pounds, the Multijoy Spaniel has a limit of 350.”

Features and Accessories

  • Both bikes come with front and rear fenders.
  • The Multijoy Spaniel has plastic front fenders, while the Aventon Adventure’s fenders are metal.
  • Both bikes have 750 watt rear Cadence motors with a peak power of 1130 kilowatts.
  • The Multijoy Spaniel includes a rear rack, but it needs to be purchased separately for the Aventon Adventure.
  • Both bikes have front headlights and rear tail lights that illuminate when braking.

“Both bikes have front headlights and they also have rear tail lights that light up whenever you hit the brakes.”

Throttle and Controls

  • The Aventon Adventure has a thumb throttle, while the Multijoy Spaniel has a twist throttle.
  • The hand grips on the Aventon Adventure have a more sporty design, while the Multijoy Spaniel’s hand grips have palm rests for a cruising feel.

“When it comes to the throttle, the Aventon has a thumb throttle on your left-hand side, the Multijoy has a Twist throttle so it operates more like a motorcycle.”

Weight and Brakes

  • The Aventon Adventure weighs 73 pounds, while the Multijoy Spaniel weighs 72 pounds.
  • The Multijoy Spaniel has 180mm mechanical brakes, while the Aventon Adventure features 180mm hydraulic brakes.

“The Multijoy has 180mm mechanical brakes, but the Aventon has 180mm hydraulic brakes.”

Gears and Speed

  • The Aventon Adventure has an 8-speed Shimano gear system, while the Multijoy Spaniel has a 7-speed Shimano gear system.
  • The Multijoy Spaniel also has a derailleur guard and a built-in bell.

“The Aventon has an 8-speed Shimano gear system, the Multijoy has a seven-speed Shimano gear system, but it also has a derailleur guard that the Aventon doesn’t have and it also has a built-in Bell.”

  • The Aventon Adventure has a range of 27 miles by using the throttle and an average range of 45 miles with pedal assist.
  • The Multijoy Spaniel has a range of 40 miles by using the throttle and 70 miles with pedal assist.

“This battery that’s on the Multijoy is a 960 watt-hour 48-volt 20-amp battery, which means it’s going to go farther and faster than the Aventon which has a 48-volt 15-amp 720 watt-hour battery.”

Battery Chargers and Connectivity

  • Both bikes come with a three-amp speed charger.
  • The Aventon Adventure’s charger gets hot to touch, while the Multijoy Spaniel’s charger has a built-in fan to prevent overheating.
  • The Aventon Adventure requires an app to make changes, while the Multijoy Spaniel allows changes directly on the display.

“There’s also a big difference with the type battery chargers that these both have. Now they both have the three-amp speed Chargers, but with the Aventon, that battery charger itself will get so hot that you can’t touch it. The Multijoy bike, well that thing has a built-in fan, you can hear it when it runs, and it doesn’t get hot at all.”

Seat and Brakes

  • Aventon Adventure and Multijoy Spaniel both come with a standard seat.
  • The one on the Multijoy is wider than the one on the Adventure.
  • Both bikes have a straight post and a quick release.
  • The Adventure has hydraulic brakes, which feel great and stop well.
  • The brakes on the Multijoy are mechanical and feel lacking.
  • The Multijoy brakes squeaked initially and had to be taken to a bike shop multiple times to fix.
  • Considering the weight and speed of the bike, hydraulic brakes would have been preferable.
  • The decals and lettering on both bikes are clear-coated, except for the battery lettering on the Multijoy, which can be removed.

“The Adventure has hydraulic brakes that feel great and stop well.”

Bike Performance

  • The reviewer found the Aventon Adventure bike to be heavy and fast, which made them question the use of mechanical brakes.
  • The Aventon Adventure had impressive speed and acceleration, giving a dirt bike or motorcycle-like experience.
  • The bike was very responsive during takeoff, both with pedal assist and full throttle.

“I thought it was really good on the acceleration and top speed.”

Brake Comparison

  • The reviewer agrees with Scott that the brakes on the Aventon Adventure do not match the power of the bike.

“The brakes don’t match the power of the bike.”

Bike Selection Criteria

  • The reviewer plans to ride the Multijoy bike more often because it has better braking performance and accelerating features.
  • They believe that bikes should excel in acceleration and braking, as those are the key actions during riding.

“Most of the time we’re going to be accelerating…one has a better braking system and I think one has a better accelerating feature to it.”

Third-Party Opinion

  • The reviewer’s friend Chris rode both bikes and ended up liking the Multijoy more than the Aventon Adventure.

“My buddy Chris…ended up liking this one more than that one.”

Indecisiveness

  • With two people favoring each bike, the reviewer is uncertain about the final choice and suggests having someone else ride the bikes to get another opinion.

“So now we have like a two and two…I guess I’m gonna have to have somebody else ride these bikes.”

Is the Multijoy Spaniel a good bike to take on a mountain bike trail? Let’s find out!

Video Summary

Beginner Course

  • The narrator decides to try out a beginner-type course on the trail.
  • He wants to see how well the bike performs on this easier route.

“There’s a more of a beginner type course so we’re gonna give that a shot and see how well this bike does.”

Trail Test

  • The video shows the narrator riding the bike on the trail.
  • He hits a jump and injures his knee, but the bike handles the impact well.

“I hit the jump because I hit the chop. My knee bounced off that rock, but look, good thing I stopped. Holy crap, this bike wouldn’t have been able to handle that.”

Bike Performance Evaluation

  • The narrator discusses the bike’s performance on the trails.
  • He mentions that the throttle is not responsive and the pedal assist level one is ineffective.
  • The bike wants to take off and launch when in pedal assist level two.
  • He concludes that the Multi-Joy bike is not suitable for mountain biking and is better as a cruiser bike.

“Throttle the with that not good. When you’re trying to grab some times and try to hold on, the thing just takes off. Also, pedal assist one didn’t do anything on this bike. So, you have to put it in pedal assist too. Well then it just wants to take off and launch. This is a great light cruiser round and not a mountain bike.”

Comparing Bikes

  • The narrator compares his experience with the Multi-Joy bike to his previous bike, the Avinton Adventure.
  • He mentions that he has more experience and comfort with the Avinton Adventure.
  • He prefers the hydraulic brakes and thumb throttle on his Avinton Adventure.

“I feel like my Avinton uh adventure would be a lot better. Also, I have almost a thousand miles on that bike and only have like 30 on this one, so the level of comfort is obviously different. These mechanical brakes would totally rather have hydraulic brakes. Definitely want to use a thumb throttle instead of a twist throttle.”

Bike Durability

  • The narrator comments on the durability of the Multi-Joy bike.
  • Despite crashing and wrecking the bike, it is still in good condition.
  • He believes the bike held up as well as he did, if not better.

“You guys have seen what I just put this thing through, and it’s still fine. Even after I wrecked it, it’s still doing good. Is it a good bike? Did it hold up? Absolutely. Held up about as good as I did, maybe better.”

Seat Comfort and Pedal Strikes

  • The narrator mentions that the seat on the Multi-Joy bike feels good.
  • He didn’t experience any pedal strikes, despite the bike having 170mm crank arms.

“The seat feels actually pretty good. No pedal strikes, oddly enough, even though it does have 170 millimeter crank arms. If you were doing this kind of trails would I get this bike? No.”

“The Multi-Joy bike is a great cruiser bike. Is it a good bike? Did it hold up? Absolutely. Held up about as good as I did, maybe better.”

Multijoy sent me their Spaniel Fat Tire E-bike. Is this the Best Budget Ebike for 2022? I have to admit that I was impressed with how many ways you can configure this bike thru the controller. I am looking forward to putting this up against my Aventon Aventure.

Unboxing and Packaging

  • The packaging is excellent, with the bike well-protected.
  • There are a few boxes with additional items like a Multi-Joy hat, a water holder, screws, and tools.
  • A user manual is included for assembly guidance.
  • The bike comes with a headlight, which is a 48 volt and expected to be super bright.
  • There is also a ribbon or medallion included, but its purpose is unclear.

“The packaging was excellent, very secure and well protected.”

Assembly Process

  • The tools provided are sufficient for assembling the bike.
  • The battery is already fully charged and ready to go.
  • The handlebars are attached first, not too tight to allow for adjustment later.
  • The front wheel is easily put on, with caution to remove the side covers and avoid touching the brake rotor.
  • The headlight and front fender are installed, with attention to the proper alignment and use of provided tools.

“The assembly process is straightforward, with clear instructions and provided tools.”

First Impressions and Adjustments

  • The handlebars and headlight can be adjusted for height and angle.
  • The wiring for the headlight is wrapped and secured with a Velcro strip.
  • Arrows on the headlight and front fender indicate proper alignment.
  • The front fender is attached with the provided bolt and nut.

“The bike allows for adjustments and provides a clean look with secure attachments.”

Assembly instructions and modifications

  • The holes need to be at the same height for proper assembly.
  • An extra nut was used to connect the fender to the top, allowing for easy removal without disturbing the light.

“Run it through because you want these holes to be at the same height.”

“I kept the light tight and then I just used one of those extra nuts that was in this package here to put the fender on to connect it to the top.”

Pedal installation

  • There are left and right pedals that need to be screwed on differently.
  • The left pedal should be screwed in counterclockwise.

“You have a left and a right, they’re going to be screwed on two different ways but it says left right on it.”

“This left pedal, you’ll be screwing it in counterclockwise.”

Adding the water bottle cage

  • The water bottle cage is included with the bike.
  • The positioning of the cage is considered good, but it will be evaluated during the test ride.

“We’re now doing the final thing and that is putting on the water bottle cage because it came with the bike.”

“I think the positioning of it is probably pretty good, I don’t know, we’re going to figure it out on the test ride.”

Features of the Multiljoy Fat Tire Ebike

  • The bike has large 26×4 kenda tires with a good grip system.
  • It is equipped with a control system that starts the display and turns on the bike.
  • The bike features a Shimano 7-speed gear shift system and a half-twist throttle.
  • It has a 48-watt headlight and aluminum front forks that can be locked out and are adjustable.
  • The hub motor is a 750-watt brushless gear motor paired with the Shimano 7-speed gear system.
  • The bike comes with plastic front and rear fenders and an integrated tail light.
  • It has a 55-pound capacity back rack with a clamping system.
  • The brakes are a 180 mm mechanical brake system for both front and rear.
  • The battery is a 48-volt 20-amp 960-watt battery, which can be charged through the display and has a USB charger.
  • The bike weighs 72 pounds with battery, with a maximum weight capacity of 350 pounds.
  • It is available in both step-over and step-through models.

Initial test ride and bike features

  • The bike was taken for a test ride, with a full review to be provided later.
  • The controller allows for multiple customizations, such as nine different pedal assist modes and speed limit control.
  • The throttle is not limited and can reach the bike’s set speed, making it motorcyclish and addictive.
  • The comfort of the bike is decent, with slight adjustments needed for personal preference.
  • The bell on the bike is convenient and easy to use.
  • Some modifications will be made to improve the ride, such as adjusting the handlebars.
  • The battery performance and range will be further tested.

“I put 20 miles on this bike today and let me tell you, there’s a lot of things I like about this bike.”

“The controller on this bike gives you a lot of separate functionality with it, and what I mean by that is it lets you adjust a lot of things.”

“This bike is a solid bike, I do think it’s good for the money.”
