Segway Xyber First Ride

Check out the new Segway Xyber as I cover some of the specs and go for my first ride.

First Look at the Segway Xyber: A Stylish Moped-Style eBike

I’m excited to give you a first look at the Segway Xyber, a moped-style eBike that not only catches the eye but also packs a punch in terms of performance and features. The design is sleek and undeniably attractive, making it a great option for anyone looking for an electric ride that blends style with functionality. In this summary, I’ll delve into the bike’s specifications, performance, and my initial riding experience, while also touching on some upcoming features I intend to explore further in a full review.

Key Features Overview
  1. Battery Variants:
    • For now, I’m riding the single battery version of the Segway Xyber which features a robust 48V, 30Ah battery, providing 1,440 Wh of power.
    • There is an option for a dual battery configuration, which will significantly enhance performance to 6,000 watts and 175 Nm of torque. The second battery is currently on back order, but I’m looking forward to testing the full potential once it’s installed.
  2. Motor and Torque:
    • The single battery version boasts a powerful 3,000 watts output, which can generate 120 Nm of torque, making it quite a capable ride.
    • The upgrade to dual batteries will provide the additional power and torque needed for more intense riding.
  3. Braking System:
    • Equipped with a four-piston brake system and 220 mm rotors, the Cyber is built for reliable stopping power regardless of the speed I reach.
  4. Tires and Fork:
    • The bike features large 20 x 5 inch multi-surface tires which give it excellent traction on various terrains.
    • The dual crown fork has a travel of 110 mm, contributing to a smooth ride over bumpy surfaces.
  5. Adjustable Suspension:
    • I appreciate the rear shock that comes with 100 mm of adjustable travel. I set mine to the highest setting for today’s ride to gauge comfort.
  6. Cockpit Controls:
    • The handlebar setup includes a full twist throttle for easy control and an intuitive layout for managing riding modes.
    • There are 12 levels of pedal assist and multiple riding modes, including eco, sport, and race for tailored riding experiences.
  7. Accessories:
    • The bike offers additional bags to store items, with both hard and soft shell options available.
    • I opted for the soft shell bag as the hard shell was sold out, but it still serves its purpose well.
Performance Experience

During my first ride, I experimented with the various settings starting in eco mode, which allows for smooth acceleration up to speeds of 25 mph. The bike operates quietly, which is a significant plus in populated areas or bike trails. I quickly observed that the power delivery was consistent and gradual, ensuring a comfortable experience as I navigated traffic.

I shifted into sport mode, and there was a noticeable increase in power, allowing me to reach speeds of up to 30 mph without struggle. When I attempted race mode, I was able to achieve 33 mph, which seemed exhilarating yet stable, thanks to the bike’s design and handling capabilities.

Riding Dynamics

While cruising around the city, I realized that this isn’t just a traditional bicycle; rather, it feels more akin to a moped. It is worth noting that while the option for pedaling exists, you won’t want to rely on this feature for speeds over 10 mph due to the tiny chainring, which makes pedaling feel ineffective (often referred to as “ghost pedaling”). Instead, I found myself primarily utilizing the throttle and occasionally pretending to pedal to maintain etiquette around pedestrians.

The bike’s design encourages smooth rides, and the 12 pedal assist levels coupled with an easy-to-use app allow me to tailor my experience even further. The app integrates navigation features and enables music control, which amplifies the overall ride experience.

Final Thoughts and Future Reviews

As someone who purchased this bike independently (Segway isn’t sponsoring this review), I’m truly impressed with the Segway Xyber thus far. The price point of $2,999 for the single battery version and an additional $799 for the dual battery is reasonable compared to comparable models in the market.

I’m eager to dive deeper into performance when the second battery arrives, which promises even more exhilarating rides. I plan to provide a full review encompassing all my testing to give insights into the performance differences between the single and dual battery setups.

If you’re curious to see how the Xyber evolves in performance, or want to learn more about my overall thoughts after extended use, I encourage you to subscribe and stay tuned. I can’t wait to share more about this incredible ride, and I truly appreciate you spending time watching this first look video.

Whether you’re considering the Segway Xyber or just exploring options for electric bikes, always remember to enjoy the ride!
