Finding the Perfect Bag for Your Extra Battery

Finding the Perfect Bag for Your Extra Battery

I tested out a couple of different rear rack bags that are big enough to store an e-bike battery.

Finding a bag for an extra battery

  • The video will showcase different bag options for attaching an extra battery to a bike.
  • Two bag options will be discussed in detail.
  • The first bag is the “fat fox bag” and the second is the “Sahoo bike Rack Bag.”
  • The pros and cons of each bag will be highlighted.
  • The bags are affordable and cost around $20 each.

“Do you have an extra battery for your e-bike and you want to take it with you? Well today’s video is going to show you a couple of bag options so you can attach it to your bike and take it with you on your long rides.”

The “Fat Fox Bag”

  • The Fat Fox Bag is not built for a bike rack but can be mounted to the seat post.
  • The bag is spacious and can fit a 16-inch long battery.
  • It is easy to put the battery in and take it out of the bag.
  • However, since it’s not made for a bike rack, it needs to be bungee-corded to the rack.
  • The bag’s height is suitable, as it is not too tall.

“Look at the size of this bag. I figured I could make it work. It makes it super easy to put the battery in there, and then just like a dry bag or whatever, you fold it up a couple times, and then you can connect the sides to the bag, which then secures the battery.”

The “Sahoo Bike Rack Bag”

  • The Say Who Bike Bag is specifically designed for bike racks.
  • It is priced at $19.99, slightly cheaper than the Fat Fox Bag.
  • It initially requires some effort to fit the battery in, but it becomes easier with practice.
  • The bag has less room compared to the Fat Fox Bag.
  • It can be securely attached to the bike rack without the need for a bungee cord.

“The trick with this bag is the very first time I did this, it was extremely tight. Unlike the other one, you don’t have a lot of room to play with. So after doing this a couple of times, it’s become much easier and now it just slides in. You still have some room here.”

The preferred bag choice

  • The Say Who Bike Bag is chosen as the preferred option.
  • It offers a secure attachment to the bike rack frame.
  • The bag’s appearance is appealing and it eliminates the need for a bungee cord.
  • Initial difficulties in fitting the bag in the rack can be overcome with some force.
  • The bag will be used for long trips requiring an extra battery.

“This is the choice for me. Maybe not for you. If I decide to take a super long trip and I want to grab an extra battery, this will be the bag I’m going to take.”

Limitation with the Say Who Bike Bag

  • The Velcro straps on the Say Who Bike Bag are too short to connect properly to the bike rack.
  • Modifications are required to extend the soft part of the Velcro strip by at least 50%.
  • Without modifications, the bag’s weight may cause it to shift around.
  • Bungee cords can be used as an alternative to secure the bag to the rack.

“It’s a good thing I mentioned, ‘Hey, let’s take this thing for a ride,’ to figure it out because as I was trying to connect the Velcro straps back here, number one, they’re too short. […] It looks like I’m going to have to have some modifications done to make the soft part of the Velcro strip longer by at least 50 percent so that it will fit around the rack.”

Conclusion

  • The Fat Fox Bag works well but needs to be bungee-corded to the bike rack.
  • The Say Who Bike Bag is the preferred option due to its secure attachment to the bike rack frame.
  • Modifications are necessary to ensure proper fitment of the Say Who Bike Bag.
